ABOUT

Family Worship Center

The One Way Apostolic Church of God was founded in 1968 by the late District Elder Pastor Hermon L. Walker, Sr., in Chicago, Illinois.  Its doors were first opened at 315 South Cicero Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.  After two years at that location, God's hand and favor created the need to physically expand to accommodate the blessings of souls.  The church then relocated to 4639 West Washington Blvd., Chicago, Illinois with a seating capacity of 220.

In 1994, after 25 years of service, District Elder Pastor Hermon L. Walker Sr. retired.  After his retirement, his son Elder Hermon L. Walker Jr. became the Pastor.  During his tenure and while weathering a season of transition, the church faced many challenges.  During this period, two additional churches were formed that resulted in a decline in the membership.  Pastor Hermon L. Walker Jr. resigned in April of 1998.

In November of 1998, Dr. Noah L. Nicholson II became the Pastor and accepted the challenge to continue to build the church and faith of its membership.  Immediate ministry restructures took place, including the name change to One Way Family Worship Center.  Within months, the fruits of labor began to show forth in the form of harvest, and a second Sunday Morning Worship Service was birthed.

As the membership increased, the people of God had a mind to work!  The 4639 W. Washington location consistently underwent major renovation which included multiple construction projects.  Dr. Nicholson’s trend of leadership introduced the church to 21st century business and organizational structure.  The computerization of systems involving, administration, daily business/financial record keeping, television/media ministry, and the inception of global outreach to foreign countries via evangelism.  Our partnerships with various charities in sponsoring food, education and clothing for children has undoubtedly helped to steady our focus as we continue to move forward in our destiny.

As the needs of many were being met, the quest for church expansion and ministry accommodation was reached in January 2003 by moving the second Morning Worship Service to John Marshall High School Auditorium, in Chicago, Illinois.  The Family Worship Center overcame all opposition and moved its place of worship in May of 2004 when the ministry purchased a 43,000 sq. ft. facility with a seating capacity of 4000.  The facility included a state of the art fitness center, gymnasium and forty-five active ministries.  Many people enjoyed the weekly “Family Celebration” Television Broadcast which was launched in July of 2005 to minister the gospel to viewers throughout Illinois.  As Dr. Nicholson continues to feed a membership that has increased over 2000 percent and the message is geared toward the needs of the total man, his foundational purpose of the One Way Family Worship Center will continue to be that which was embraced in 1998, which is to be a church where the love of God is demonstrated freely.

Our Pastor

Dr. Noah L. Nicholson, II

Pastor of Family Worship Center

Dr. Noah Nicholson’s ministry places high priority on the victory of the inner man, power through the word of God, holistic family worship and demonstrating the love of Christ. This love is demonstrated through various social service programs such as financial literacy training, drug rehabilitation, a job bank and resume writing assistance, the purchase and distribution of Christmas gifts at a neighborhood school, and back to school festivals, providing school supplies and haircuts; all of which are free to the community.

In addition to the many programs provided by Dr. Nicholson’s congregation, speaking at churches, conferences, retreats and prisons has afforded him further opportunities to impact and influence the lives of thousands across America and other parts of the world.

Dr. Noah L. Nicholson, II was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and was educated in the Chicago public school system. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School (1980) and continued his educational career at Moody Bible Institute, the International Theological Seminary where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Theology (1993), McCormick Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (1996) and Aenon Bible College where he received his Doctorate in Divinity (2001).

Dr. Nicholson became the pastor of “One Way Family Worship Center” on November 1, 1998. Under his leadership the membership has increased over 2000 percent. He was appointed a District Elder of the Illinois District Council (IDC) of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (P.A.W.) in 2003, has served as Chairman of the Illinois District Council Young People’s Union from 1986 to1992, and served as President of the International Pentecostal Young People’s Union of the P.A.W. from 1995 to 2001.

In his desire to impact worldwide saturation of the gospel and spread the love of Christ, Dr. Nicholson and his congregation have partnered with World Vision to sponsor orphaned children in Africa who have lost their parents as a result of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Nicholson traveled to South Africa to experience first hand the devastating effects of this deadly disease. Dr. Nicholson and the Family Worship Center ministry have also traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to do life-changing crusades and have helped to support local ministry in Kenya for several years.
